One Room Challenge Week Three

So, it's week three of The One Room Challenge.  If you're coming in new, I'm involved in a challenge with a group of bloggers to finish a room in six weeks.  The room I've chosen to finish is my laundry room.  I'm making progress, but it's slow.  I'm going to have to make some things happen quickly to finish everything in three weeks!

The built-in ironing board that was never used is gone.

Lots of blank, blue wall now.

This fan is gone.

I wanted a ceiling fixture that wouldn't make me feel claustrophobic like the fan did.  The ceilings in the room are only eight and a half feet.  My husband installed this IKEA fixture.  I like the fixture a lot and it's only $15.  Also, it's something my husband can handle installing.  It's not going to work, though.  It doesn't create enough light.  At night the room is not nearly bright enough.  I like lots of light.  I think what we need is to have the electrician come install a couple of can lights.

This is the side door from the driveway into the house.  It's the door we always use.  When you walk into the house here, the laundry room is what you see if you look into the room on the right.  Specifically, you see the wall below.

This project is what I'm most looking forward to having completed.  It's what we see all the time, and it will be such an improvement not to look at the built-in ironing board or a blank wall.

And here is the reason I can't have cute accessories like garden stools in the room.  No breakables with the 20 pound cat!

Be sure to visit the other participants in the challenge.  They have lots of interesting progress to share.

That's really too bad about the light, Jennifer. It looks like it would have fit well with the room. Hate when the thing I want to like doesn't work out.

Bummer, about the light, at least it didn't cost a fortune.. Excited to see what you do to that big blue canvas of yours!

That lighting fixture is great, makes such a difference! I think adding recessed lights as well is a great idea for a laundry room that needs a lot of light!

And your cat is gorgeous! I know what you mean by cats and accessories not going together - my cat just broke my favorite vase. :( You're smart for avoiding situations like that.

I agree that having lots of light is important...too bad about your new fixture not working, but can lights are a great option. Your cat is adorable! I have 2 giant dogs who like to cause all kinds of mayhem, so I understand decorating around pets (and kids for that matter!).

Just a question, do you have cases for Droid phones? I want a cute case but all the cases that I like are only for iPhones.

You found that at Ikea...wow, it is pretty. If you get cans, will you keep the decorative one too? My only suggestion is to go straight to LED cans and bulbs. It will cost you more up front...and is a home run over time. I understand about that room being your view when you walk in. Won't be long.

Looking good here...love the light. Think I would definitely just add a few can lights to this, too!!

I like the light. It's too bad it doesn't provide enough of it though. I have a 20 lb cat also...we call him "little cougar". We really should call him "little tasmanian devil" instead. He destroys everything he sets his sights on.

I love the light fixture...too bad it isn't going to work. I think you are right- can lights are the way to go! I just love the photos of your cat!! They made me laugh!Loving the pops of color in the room...on the walls and the appliances!
