Traditional, Mid-Century or Eclectic

Gilded and lacquered chest from Italy circa 1734-1745 with Italian carved and gilded Chinese Chippendale style mirror circa 1940s

Don't you think a black chest with a gold mirror always looks fantastic in an entry?  Or anywhere else for that matter.   I think the combination is beautiful.  I came across two chests and two mirrors on 1st Dibs that I'm crazy about.  I put the traditional chest with the traditional mirror and did the same with the two mid-century items.  Do you prefer one look more than the other?  Which one?

What about mixing the two?  I think the mid-century chest with the traditional mirror is my favorite.  The eclectic look is just more interesting to me in this case.  What do you think?  And aren't these pieces gorgeous?!

I like the Electic too. Recently, i bought a stack of decorating books from the late 70's early 80's at a garage sale. A series of books that Architectural Digest published and were edited by the venerable Paige Rense. "New York Interiors" "Decorating for Celebrities" were just a few of the titles. I think a great idea for a series (kinda like your other flashback series) would be to take images of rooms from this era and decide "Keep, Toss or Rearrange" . There is so much good and so much bad in these rooms. And the text from these books will crack you up. Most of "the" decorators of this era were men and they were sooo arrogant.

I'll have to look for those books; I've never seen them. They sound interesting and entertaining. Your idea for a series sounds really fun! I have lots of old ADs and Southern Accents I could do that with. Your comments are very perceptive and have actually helped me to know why I'm liking what I'm liking! Thanks so much for visiting my blog!

I was looking for something to show my client on how to mix mid century modern and traditional. This is perfect! You've done it simply and superbly. www.interiorsunleashed.com www.interiorsunleashed.blogspot.com
