Kerry Steele on Abstract Art and a Giveaway

10.22.2012

Kerry Steele is sharing some of her favorite abstract art today with pink for Day 22 of my 31 Days of Pink Series.  I'm a huge fan of Kerry's work.  I've featured her here, here, and here.  I also am a fan of her blog, Design du Monde.  She was very generous to share some of her favorite art with us today.  I knew she'd have some amazing things to show us and she did not disappoint!

I am so excited to be here doing a guest post on two of my favorite things. The color pink and abstract art. Put them together and you have decorating heaven in my book. Any time that you take the über-feminine color pink and combine it with something a little edgy, it takes it from sweet to chic.
Here are a few pics that I put together for you.

"Uncertainty"by Christina B. HERE
I have had my eye on this one by Swiss artist, Christina B. Much of her work uses the color pink with the same feminine yet edgy feel I described.

Anne Harper "Persuasion #6" HERE
Anne Harper's "Persuasion #2" has made the rounds on Pinterest but I bet you did not realize that there are several more in the series. I chose #6 because the ethereal, watery nature has such a serene look to me. The layering of color adds so much dimension.

María Alcañiz "Wall" HERE
I really like the variation in pinks here. At first glance it looks entirely pink  with a touch of green but upon studying it longer you see golds, lavender, gray, brown, and several greens. I think that one of the hallmarks of a good painting is subtle details that slowly reveal themselves the longer you look.

"Breaking away"  Linda Monfort
Linda Monfort is a favorite of mine. I own two of her paintings. In this particular example you can see some of her brushstrokes and the paint, being paint. I love this quality in a painting because it really gives the effect of movement and energy, as if you can see how the brush moves.

artist Sally Kelly
I think my count is now up to eight paintings by Sally Kelly, crazy I know. She is a British artist and architect and lucky for us a very affordable Etsy seller.  I asked her if she had a favorite pink painting that I could include in this post and she painted not one but two for me. What a doll! Actually, we are doing a trade so I did a painting or two for her as well.

Her abstract landscapes are so serene. They never hit you over the head saying, "I'm a landscape!" instead they just whisper the feeling of a place I would love to be.

I can't tell you how hard it was to narrow this down. There are so many fabulous artists out there and more than a few who use the color pink to brilliant effect.

All of these are gorgeous.  If you're new to my blog, you don't know that I commissioned Kerry to do a large painting for over my mantle for The One Room Challenge.  I was thrilled with what she did and you can see the post here.

Kerry surprised me with a painting for my 31 Days of Pink series.  Isn't it beautiful?  I received it in the mail Friday.  I absolutely LOVE it and will show it to you again when it's hanging.  She also is giving my readers the chance to win one of her amazing paintings on paper.

Giveaway Directions:

1)  Go peruse Kerry's paintings on paper here and come back and leave a comment telling your favorite.

2)  Like Kerry's Art Page on Facebook here.

That's it!  The giveaway closes at midnight on the 30th and I'll announce the winner on the 31st.  Good luck!

Thank you, Kerry, for sharing the amazing art and the exciting giveaway!

It figures that the one I am drawn to has "no title" ... the pink and a little blue .... 12 X12 ... but like Sherry ... I'd be jumping with joy for any one of them!! I have liked her Facebook page already and really enjoy seeing all the new work she posts there! xo

Happy Monday Jennifer and Kerry ~ A beautiful way to start the week! Thanks for sharing and curating all those fabulous pieces. Love them. As for a favorite on Kerry's site.....all of them :) But I really do love the first 9 x 12 abstract on paper. I'm not on Facebook so I don't qualify for this giveaway, but I still wanted to leave a comment and pick a favorite.
Cheers,
Loi

Beautiful - I'm sure the colors are even more lovely in person! P.S. Is there an upcoming feature on "Think Pink" in the movie Funny Face? I know it isn't technically home decor, but I keep thinking of that song (and the beautiful pink clothes that went with it). :)

I was literally on Kerry's etsy page last night dreaming of one of her paintings! I love her work (thank you so much to the Pink Pagoda for introducing me to her!) and as a friend recently pointed out, her work has a Georgia O'Keefe quality to it that I think really speaks to me. I have entered about 1000 blog giveaways and never won anything, so I am crossing my fingers and toes that this will be my lucky day! No. 21 is my fave of her paintings on paper.
