Around Town and Reader Suggestions

I've posted about Again and Again here in Dallas several times, because every time I go in they have new, fantastic things to share with you.  I usually go with my sister and we make an afternoon out of checking out several of our favorites destinations.  I don't have blogging on my mind on these days, but when I walk into Again and Again, I'm usually struck by the thought that I need to start taking photos.  This zebra was the first thing I saw as I entered last week.  Wow.  I see things like this in magazines and Pinterest, but not in person here in Dallas.  I personally will never have a spot for this, but it was fun to see.

And a giraffe.

There are six of these.  I'm not sure they'd be comfortable, but they're amazing.

This headboard caught my eye.  Then I spotted the camel.  That piece it's sitting on is pretty great, too.

These won't be there long.

I'm dying over this mirror.  I don't care for the present color a bit, but I can look beyond that tiny issue.

See anything you like?  I'm going to have to start showing you other places in Dallas.  You'll be thinking this is all we have.  There are actually many fantastic interior design shopping destinations.  I just need to remember to take photos when I'm there!  Now, on to what I'm hoping will be some advice you can give me.....

I've never gotten into the slow cooking arena, but I'm wanting to give it a try.  I'm looking at slow cookers and need suggestions.  I've read many reviews on Amazon and Williams Sonoma, which just confused me.  I've heard that they are not very technical, and an inexpensive one will work just as well, but I've gotten burned trying to save money more times than not.  Typically, I believe that you get what you pay for.  I just don't want to pay more than I need.  Do any of you have a slow cooker that you love?  Please share anything you know!

Happy Friday!

I am an embarrassingly big brand snob, and I value the "spend once, cry once" mentality. That said, I am a slow-cooking machine and the decidedly low-budget one that I own does a fabulous job. (

That said, I think the main price difference between mine and some of the Williams-Sonoma ones is that mine is a manual, not programmable. But I don't see programmable as being that necessary. Unless you're cooking chicken and you're going to be away from home for a LOT longer than the recommended cook time, most foods cooked in a crockpot aren't going to suffer if they're on for a little longer. And that's really where the benefit for programmable comes in.

Jenna at Eat, Live, Run blog is a professionally trained chef and successful food blogger, and she swears by a slow cooker she got at Target for $20.

No matter what you decide, enjoy it! Slow cooking is SO great.

I've never slow-cooked and know nothing about prolonged cookery, but I do want that giraffe and I shall name him "Barnabas."

I have the All-Clad and I love it. For one thing, I like open storage in my kitchen and this little number is a beautiful thing. It is easy to use, easy to clean. One of the thing I use my slow cooker for is for dried beans. No having to check if simmer is too high or water level too low. I am a big fan of Rancho Gordo heritage beans and the slow cooker delivers them perfect, not over done, just perfect.

I love the chairs. They remind me of cast iron chairs my mother in law had. As my husband recalls you had to be very tired or very drunk to be able to sit on them, however!

I have a low end slow cooker and have no issues with it. I generally buy higher quality name small appliances for the kitchen but a bargain slow cooker is all I need. I don't use it all that often but I need to start doing that again. Let us know your best recipes.

I LOVE Again and Again!!! I furnished half our home in Dallas from Again and Again! Leslie is so sweet, and I miss her so much! :)

Regarding the slow cooker, I recently purchased this ADORABLE blue and white one by Dana Gibson for Hamilton Beach. In all honesty, I haven't used it yet, but for $25 you can't go wrong, AND it is blue & white, which would be beyond perfect for your kitchen! :),or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.r_qf.&bvm=bv.41248874,d.eWU&ion=1&biw=1441&bih=517&wrapid=tlif135856053853110&sa=X&ei=Kf35UKGHF4n28wSI_YHgCw&ved=0CFAQ8wIwAA

I am an occassional slow pot cooker and I have what is considered a "cheaper" 15 year old, Rival and it works like a champ. I am usually snobby about where I buy things and the brand but lets face, its all pretty much made in China these days. There is a good cookbook called Fix it and Forget It and of course Pinterest! Going to try a baby back rib recipe I found last week on Pinterest this weekend.

Can't wait to check out Again and Again when I visit my sis in Dallas.

Have a great weekend.

I've had an inexpensive Rival slow cooker from Target for years, and it's still going strong. Again & Again looks like a perfect outing!

So. Much. Goodness! I love shopping vicariously! All those critters were adorbs, but the giraffe was just phenom as I've never seen anything like it!

Slow cooking is fab! So easy and lots of good, healthy recipes. I use an inexpensive Hamilton Beach and it works like a champ! I mostly adhere to the get what you pay for mantra as well, but I think it's safe to go budget on slow cookers. I've never had problems with mine.
