I'm redoing my breakfast room for ORC, which you can read about here. This stripe will go on the chair seats. This is only a partial piece of the fabric. I ordered a quarter yard to check color. The actual fabric is symmetrical and will be placed symmetrically on the chairs. I just have to decide whether to go horizontal or vertical. You can see one of the chairs I'll be using below. I need some direction here -- pun intended -- please tell me what you think! Both directions are represented in the photos below.

My personal preference is vertical, but I like them both! Can't wait to see.
Happy Friday.

I like vertical, Jennifer ~ it's going to look fabulous!
Horizontal with the welt on an angle. Cant wait to see final product!
Hope you are having a great Friday!

I know I said I had a really strong opinion on this, but I think I just changed my mind. I will never go against Caitlin Wilson.
I think side to side is less traditional and a nice foil to the traditional lines of the chair.
Something about horizontal just feels fresher and more updated to me. But the fabric is so fun it will look great either way!
I'm with Linda, Caitlin sealed the deal for me. I think you should go horizontal. And I think I want a yard of that fabric btw. :)
Horizontal! I say that because a while back I had a gorgeous stripe put on my DR chairs vertically and every time I look at them I wish I had done it on the horizontal as it is more unexpected. I also like the idea of the bias welt suggested above...
I like vertical myself! Either way is a winner.
Ok,I am just gonna' throw this out coz I am not a stripe person so technically I should just disqualify myself now...... not gonna' happen being I am somewhat opinionated..... please see this stripe chevron @ link here....

My comment took off before I finished... I love the colors & design I just would like it done in the chevron style... just saying....
Vertical lady, vertical. The majority have spoken. The election is over! TGIF!
I think horizontal would be more fun and like Kerry said above. Can't wait to see them!
Horizontal for me - vertical would be good if the stripes had similar sizes or spaces in between. :-)
Horizontal all the way!
Hi Junell, that would be great, but with the fabric I'm using for curtains it would get too busy. That's why I'm doing a stripe. The other fabric has a lot going on.
I am being totally honest, I can tell you are wanting to go horizontally but your instinct is telling you it is not quite right.
I say vertically it is more in keeping with the semi-formal look of your home. Horizontally looks more like a cabana stripe to me. I love the colors the size of stripe but it goes almost cute when placed horizontally. I told you I would be honest. Of course this is IMHO!

PS, horizontal looks great on the Caitlin chair because it is only two colors, but with the multiple colors it looks to cute and trendy to me. You do know how I love a good stripe!! xo
Horizontal baby!!! Cannot wait to see this!! x
Horizontal! For sure!
With it being multi color my instincts tell me vertical. It just feels "right" to me.....good luck, great fabric..so fresh and uplifting cannot wait to see the end result!
I think definitely vertical. When you see multi colored stripes I think its going to look very strange horizontally. Just my opinion.
Horizontal!
I prefer vertical, but you cannot go wrong either way! :)
XOXO,

Oh boy, I see youre getting every answer, so not sure if this will help, but I vote horizontal!..best of luck, it is a grand fabric and is looking awesome!

OK, game changer: I prefer the current fabric to vertical or horizontal stripes. I think it is stronger and plays nice with the new curtains. Don't kill me.
wow i love the fabric.
the colors make me smile!
horizontal would be my choice.
i just think it is a young - hip look.
xxo
I would vote horizontal. When I look at a chair, I feel like I look at it up and down. Placing the fabric horizontally would allow you to see all the fab colors you've combined into this fabric at one time. Seems that if they are vertical, your eye would sort of stop, then move left and right. Not sure if that made any sense! I honestly don't think you can go wrong either way, and I'm excited to see what you choose!
LOVE HORIZONAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Horizontal! freshtastic!
I'm going to have to go with horizontal....just a fresher look for me....
ditto to many of the comments above, horizontal feels fresh!
looking forward to the results
