PROJECT DESIGN: HOW TO STYLE YOUR MANTLE FOR SPRING TWO WAYS

The mantel is always the focal point of any room with a fireplace. I've always loved changing mine up a bit from time to time, so I was thrilled to participate in Project Design: How to Style Your Mantle For Spring Two Ways.

This is our family room.  It's where we spend most of our time, and we've enjoyed this gorgeous painting by Reagan Geschardt so much. I appreciate many design styles, but for my own house, I tend to keep things simple and symmetrical.  This painting is fantastic on its own and doesn't need embellishment, so I just added two bamboo shaped large vases with hydrangea and greenery from the grocery store.  With the beautiful colors Reagan used in the painting, I didn't have to do much to create a mantel perfect for spring.

Since I needed to show two ways to style a mantel, my daughter painted this maidenhair fern for me, and I love the loose way she used watercolor to create the leaves.  I wanted to do something unsymmetrical, and was excited to have the opportunity to use my new emperors set.  Every year toward the middle of February, I start to long for green.  With the arrival of spring, all of the green is such a welcome sight.  I asked my daughter to do something with lots and lots of this refreshing color, and she couldn't have chosen to paint anything I'd like more.  The ferns in the fireplace are in this wicker storage trunk from Target. I purchased it a few years ago and took the top and the bottom off.  After placing a plastic bin inside, it's perfect for displaying plants inside the fireplace during the warmer months.

Coincidentally, One Kings Lane just began a sale called Mantel Makeover.  If you're needing items for your mantel, it's a great place to start your search.

A big, huge thank you to Project Design for allowing me to participate.  This was lots of fun!  Don't miss seeing all of the spring mantel inspiration created by the talented group below!
