Spring 2014 One Room Challenge Week Three

4.16.2014

Welcome to Week Three!  If you're jumping in late, here's One, and here's Two.  First, I'll tell you that as I'm redoing my daughter's "hangout room" which has to somewhat relate to her bedroom, we're thinking about shades.  I purchased these above and below for her bedroom redesign.  It was a mistake.  I can sometimes forget that you get what you pay for.  These are Levolor from Lowes, and they're poorly made and have already broken numerous times.  It was for my last One Room Challenge and time was an issue.  I can also forget not to procrastinate.

Here's the window in the hangout room that needs some attention.

I've used 3 Day Blinds before for blackout shades, and always had a good experience.  I thought I'd try them for something more decorative this time.  A representative came to my house with samples and measured the window. My daughter and I chose the sample below, and placed the order.  Kind of the antithesis of DIY, right?   They should be here soon, and I'll give you a report.

And below is what we chose to replace the plain white IKEA rug.

The room was bare bones and there's so much to do.  Thank you Linda, for keeping us very busy over here!

Now, go check out all the other busy ladies!

I wonder if the lighter color from Lowes is made in a different facility. I got the dark colored bamboo shades from Lowes and love them but now I will be super careful with them. I love that striped rug.

Love your fun striped rug! I used Blinds.com for my bedroom for the last ORC, the price and quality were both really great!

thanks for the tip on lowe's shades Jennifer. Got some from JCPenney for a fraction of the prices online and I'm pretty happy with it (in the boys reading nook right now and has held up pretty good). Lovin' everything going into the space!

Those shades broke? What a bummer. I do love the new ones you picked out. They look like a much better quality shade. Dash & Albert...the end. Love, love, love.

That D&A rug is one of my all time favorites. It will look so good with the new blinds. And thanks for the tip on the Lowes blinds, I've often wondered about how well they would work/not work.

That rug is so good looking, I'm a sucker for blue and white stripes.

There is not much I like better than those blinds with that Dash and Albert rug....so India Hicks:)
You do get what you pay for and especially if they need to operate on a daily basis so it's a good thing you upgraded!

Good to know about the blinds--I had been thinking about getting some from there for my room. The new ones are beautiful! Love the texture! And I love the new rug, too! :)

Hot tip about the blinds! I also have the cut to order levolor blinds and mine have been fine, although I must admit that they have been raised and lowered... never :)

Great rug choice. A definite classic.

Good insight on the blinds. I have had better luck at Home Depot. I have many of their blinds throughout my home that function on a daily basis with no problem. Living for the new D & A rug. Duh. Blue and white!

I love that rug. I've always wanted a rug from Dash and Albert. Are they very soft? They look like they would be.

Funny, I haven't had any problems with our Levolor shades from Lowes(yet) and I had a horrible experience with 3 day blinds. It was a customer service problem though not product.
The curtains look great and love the stripe rug!
